You've heard of Miami Music Week, Miami Spa Month, Miami Spice, and Art Basel. Each of these affairs serves as an opportunity to introduce and immerse yourself in some aspect of South Florida's social scene that you may not normally. But there's one event quickly gaining ground, growing in participants, and offering an opportunity for historical and cultural enrichment: Miami Museum Month. Similar to say to Miami Spice with food and restaurants, Miami Museum Month offers the opportunity to receive free entry and discounts at a number of Miami's premier museums.

It wouldn't truly be Miami Museum Month if the newest, flashiest kid on the block weren't participating. While the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is relative newcomer to Miami's museum scene, it has wasted little time branding itself as arguably the area's premier educational, interactive hub. The Frost Museum opened its doors a year ago in May 2017 and immediately wowed visitors with its plethora of exhibits. Sitting on four acres of land overlooking Miami's stunning skyline, the Frost Museum is an international marvel. It's one of the few places in the world featuring a state-of-the-art planetarium and an aquarium.

The hearts and minds of visitors are instantly captured once they step foot into this panorama of mental and visual stimulation. And for Miami Museum Month, you'll not only get to experience the Frost Museum in all its glory, you'll get a $5 discount as well.

But the Frost Museum isn't the only venue doing something special for Miami Museum Month. If you're a bit further south, you can also head over to the Coral Gables Museum. This museum is especially interesting if you're an architecture and urban design buff with an interest in sustainability. The Coral Gables Museum is holding a number of events throughout the month and tours during their usual business days Tuesday through Sunday.

There's a time in everyone's life when they're obsessed with dinosaurs and trains. If you're interested in diving into your own nostalgia and a slice Miami's history, then the Gold Coast Railroad Museum is the place to visit during Miami Museum Month. The museum houses historic railroad cars and other iconic effects, and that is no exaggeration. The museum houses everything from classic recreations of iconic rail lines and cars to an exhibit featuring the preserved Pullman car, which once carried Presidents Reagan, Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower!

It's fitting that Miami holds Miami Museum Month in May, which also doubles as Haitian Heritage Month, providing the perfect opportunity for Haitians and any other interested parties to explore their rich heritage. The Haitian Heritage Museum is an ideal place to immerse yourself in the history of Hispanola in the heart of Little Haiti. The exhibits celebrate Haiti's contributions to art, music, film, literature, and more.

In addition to the venues mentioned above, Miami Museum Month offers the opportunity to visit venues like the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Miami Children's Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum for free. This is a hard deal to beat!
