Strip clubs and charity are an unusual mix, but three Cheetah Gentleman's Clubs in South Florida did something extremely charitable last Monday, November 20th when each location gave away a combined total 3,000 turkeys for Thanksgiving to families in need.
The annual Thanksgiving giveaway of 10 to 14-pound turkeys began at 11 a.m. in the parking lots of the Cheetah Hallandale Beach, Pompano Beach, and West Palm Beach locations. One turkey was given per family and was served on a first come, first served basis while supplies lasted. Turkeys were passed out by volunteers from the Hallandale police and fire departments and Broward and Palm Beach County Sherriff offices.
Combating the negative view of strip clubs, Greg Jarmon, the owner of the Hallandale location and organizer of the yearly giveaway, said, "We like to let people know we're human, because we are a strip club, and we're often stereotyped. We're the same people that live next door to you. We have compassion."
The turkeys were distributed through Rodriguez Charities, a nonprofit organization founded by Cheetah owner and former marine Joe Rodriguez. For more than 10 years, Rodriguez Charities have teamed up with the Cheetah Clubs of South Florida to support the local communities. The free Thanksgiving turkey giveaway started with only 50 turkeys and has grown tremendously over the years. Rodriguez Charities has donated more than $1.5 million dollars to various organizations and people in need.
Robert Jr of South Beach Tow, a TV series about the day to day business of family-run towing company known as Tremont Towing, posted a Facebook status that read: "When you give out 1,000 turkeys within one hour you can truly say you feel accomplished. Thank you again #RodriguezCharities and everyone that came out and helped."
"I find peace in my heart when men, women, and children walk up and merely say thank you and God bless, it’s the greatest joy of all knowing that my team and I can put this together," said Rodriguez.
It's deeds like these from Rodriguez Charities that bring together the community by continuing to take care of residents in need. Stay Connected to Things to Do in Miami, Nightlife, Restaurants and more - Register on 305area, it's free!
